Playa Guiones is the main surf focus for many visitors to the Nosara area. Its sandy setting and range of instruction options make it worth considering for a learning trip. Still, beach breaks change: a beginner-friendly destination is not a guarantee that the outside lineup is beginner-friendly today.
When to go
December to April is a practical dry-season travel shortlist rather than a claim about the biggest or best waves. The greener months can bring more swell alongside rain and transport considerations. Decide whether you are prioritising easier logistics, instruction or stronger surf before choosing dates.
Choose your base
Nosara describes a wider area, so check the exact location of your accommodation relative to Guiones and your school. A lower room rate can lose its appeal if each lesson needs paid transport. Ask about road access for your travel month and arrange the final transfer in advance.
Build a better surf week
Keep beach visits respectful of the protected coastal environment. Use established paths, leave wildlife alone and avoid lights or disturbance around nesting areas. A good week balances coached sessions, rest and time spent in locally run businesses.
