Taghazout.

A compact Atlantic village where surf days unfold between sandy bays, rocky points and mint tea. The right base can make a first surf week feel wonderfully simple.

Find your kind of wave

The region suits different abilities, but its breaks are not interchangeable. Anchor Point and Killer Point are recognised spots for experienced surfers. Beginners should arrange lessons on a suitable sandy beach. The value of a good local guide is knowing which option to leave alone on a particular day.

When to go

Autumn through early spring is the traditional swell-focused travel window. That is not the same as a guarantee of gentle learning conditions. In a big swell, ask your school how it relocates groups and what happens when the sea is unsuitable. Allow space in your itinerary for a change of plan.

Choose your base

Taghazout village works well for a compact stay. Nearby Tamraght is another base to compare, especially when a school package includes transport. Check whether the advertised stay is in the village, on the coast or farther inland, and whether meals and airport transfers are included.

Build a better surf week

Plan a week around learning rather than wave counts: a first-day assessment, several coached sessions and enough rest to absorb feedback. Support independent local cafés and guides. Dress with awareness when away from the beach and ask before photographing people.

Before you book

Compare the whole trip: flights and board baggage, the final transfer, accommodation, equipment and lessons. Get a written breakdown of what a package includes. Check cancellation terms and ask how the operator handles days when conditions are unsuitable.

Use the local forecast, lifeguard advice and an experienced instructor to make water-safety decisions. Our planning window describes a travel idea, not the conditions you will find on a particular day.
